今回は、イングランド在住の英国人グーナーにアーセナルへの愛を語ってもらった。
現地のサポーターは今のアーセナルをどう思っているのか。ブリティッシュジョークたっぷりのインタビューをご堪能あれ。

My name is Ashley.

I’m a young man of 44…

I’m a groundsman
（グラウンドキーパーだよ）
My pitches look better than Wembley’s,
（私のグラウンドはウェンブリースタジアムのものよりいいよ）
though not as good as the Emirates
（エミレーツスタジアムのものよりは良くないけど）
but there we go, they wouldn’t give me a job there
（だから、エミレーツで仕事をもらえないんだな）
I’m a groundsman, a builder, carpenter, everything.
（グラウンドキーパーであり、職人であり、大工であり、いろいろだな）
I maintain 4 schools, 3 houses, 3 gardens.
（4つの学校、3つの家、3つのガーデンを手入れしている）
They break it, I fix it
（ものが壊れれば、直し）
It grows, I cut it
（芝が伸びれば、それを刈り）
They want it, I make it
（何かが必要なら、つくる）
アーセナルを応援し始めた理由は？
I’ve supported Arsenal since I was a child…since I couldn’t even remember
（子どものときからアーセナルを応援しているよ、いつからかは覚えてないな）
They play great football,
（素晴らしいサッカーをするし、）
they’re my local team,
（私の地元のチームだからね）
they’re always winning stuff whether it’s good competitions or bad competitions or useless competitions.
（常に何かのタイトルを取る、重要なタイトルやそうでないもの、もしくはどうでもいいもの）
They’re fun and they are, the Arsenal.
（アーセナルは楽しい、それがアーセナルさ）
思い出に残っている試合や出来事
Over the years, many…
（いっぱいあるな）
let me see…
（うーん）
beating Liverpool,
（リバプールに勝った試合）
to win what was in the league one,
（それでリーグ優勝したんだ）
the last kick of the game by one goal…
（最後の最後にゴールを決めて勝ったんだ）
that was a blinding memory
（それは輝かしい思い出だよ）
Of course, ‘The Invincibles’
（もちろん「インヴィンシブルズ」もだ）
Unbeaten until Manchester United cheated us of our winning run
（マンチェスターユナイテッドが我々の連勝をとめるまではな）
Every FA Cup,

It’s endless because we’re always winning stuff
（たくさんあるよ、私たちはいつもタイトルを取るからね）

Too many, Dennis Bergkamp, Pires, Ljungberg, Tony Adams, Thierry Henry and back to Pat Jennings

Now, no one.. yet. They’re still new and they’re earning my honour

今シーズンのアーセナルについて
Well, they’re playing ok.
（まあ、悪くないよね）
They’ve improved,
（良くなっている）
their defence still needs working on
（ディフェンスはまだ改善しないとダメだね）
because even though we’ve won 9 in a row
（なぜなら9連勝していて）
and I think now 13 unbeaten,
（そして確か13試合負けなしだけれども）
a lot of it has been very lucky
（ほとんどはラッキーによるものだったからね）
because the defence are still shoddy,
（ディフェンスはまだダメだね）
they still panic
（パニックになるし）
and until he tightens up the defence,
（守備を整えるまでは）
we’re gonna keep losing or drawing as it seems to be the case.
（私たちは連敗もしくは引き分けが続く可能性があるな）
He’s changed tactics,
（新しい監督は戦術を変えたね）
thank God
（やっとだ）
so it’s no more tippy tappy backwards and forwards like a pinball machine
（これでピンポンマシーンのような後と前に蹴るだけのサッカーはしない）
so we’re converting more goals.
（得点が取れていない）
We’re creating, well, we’ve always created loads of goals
（多くのチャンスはつくるんだけど）
but we never converted them.
（でも得点できない）
We’re going forward more
（もっと前にいくようにはなった）
and we’re attacking
（攻撃をしかけるね）
constantly in one half
（前半か後半のどちらかは常に）
but for some reason,
（でもなぜか）
not in the other half
（前半か後半のどちらかは攻撃をしないんだ）
Actually, that’s kind of swapped
（実際、それはちょっと変わったな）
because with Wenger,
（ベンゲル時代は）
we always play good in the first half
（いつも前半は良いプレーをして）
and rubbish in the second
（そして後半は悪いプレーをする）
and now this guy’s got us playing rubbish in the first
（今は新しい監督になって前半に悪いプレーをし）
and attacking in the second
（後半に攻撃を仕掛ける）
so at the moment
（現時点では）
apart from converting more,
（得点を多く取れていない以外は）
there isn’t really a big difference
（そんなに大きな違いはない）
apart from less ticky tacky football
（ティキ・タカフットボールが減ったこと以外は）
once he sorts out the defence
（守備を改善すれば）
then we should be better
（チームはより良くなるだろう）
新監督について
He’s alright
（悪くないね）
but I say he’s new
（でも就任したばかりだから）
so got to give him a chance
（チャンスをあげないといけない）
He’s given them all an ego boost
（全選手のやる気を上手く引き出しているね）
so they’re all playing better,
（だから選手達は良いプレーをしているよ）
they’re playing with more passion,
（そしてより情熱を持ってプレーしているな）
you can see that straight off
（それははっきり見て取れる）
But again, until he sorts out the defence,
（でももう一度言うけど守備を改善するまでは）
but it’s his first season
（まあでも、最初のシーズンだから）
so you can’t buy every player
（欲しい選手をすべて買うことはできない）
unless you’re Man City
（マンCじゃない限り）
so give it another season,
（だから来シーズンまで待とう）
maybe January markets,
（もしかしたら1月のマーケットで）
he might strengthen up the defence
（守備的な選手を補強するかもしれないね）
and then after that
（そしてその後に）
we’ll see how good he is
（彼が良い監督かどうかわかるだろうね）
but the fact we’re not losing,
（でも負けていないという事実）
the fact that he’s been there and boosted morale
（彼が来て士気を高めたという事実）
shows that he’s already making a big difference anyway
